New life this month on trees burned by this spring's fire in the Westhampton's Dwarf Pine Plains

Good Morning!
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 63 degrees and a north wind 11 to 13 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 45. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 64, and Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 69.
• In Greenport, painter Whitney Hubbard and his wife, pianist and organist Ruth Hubbard, were known about town for their kindness and the way they shared their skills and talents with the community. The library is inviting the community to come to a “Hubbard Appreciation Day” on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 25, for tea and music in the gallery. Attendees are invited to bring Whitney Hubbard works to share with the community. Read More.
• No Kings rallies against the autocratic tendencies of our federal administration are being planned in Riverhead, Hampton Bays and East Hampton on Saturday. The Riverhead rally will be held at 9 a.m. at the County Center at 300 Center Drive in Riverhead. The East Hampton rally will be held at 11 a.m. at East Hampton Town Hall, and the Hampton Bays rally will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Macy's parking lot at the corner of Flanders Road and Montauk Highway. • In August, Group for the East End, Kenney's/McCabe's Beach Civic Association, Town of Southold, and more than 40 volunteers helped cut back phragmites from Great Pond in Southold. The Group was blown away by the support of the nature-loving community as they worked together to tackle this invasive species. They're doing it again this Saturday, Oct. 18 and on Sat., Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. Find Out More.
• OLA of Eastern Long Island is partnering with the North Fork Arts Center in Greenport on a new art exhibition, The Worker, opening on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m., which “honors the humanity, dignity, diversity, and resiliency of workers, in all forms, across communities.” Find Out More.
• The League of Women Voters' Shelter Island Candidate Forum, postponed due to weather from last Sunday, Oct. 12, has been rescheduled to Sunday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Shelter Island School. It is slated to be uploaded later to the Town of Shelter Island's YouTube channel.
• Also on Shelter Island, the island's annual Fall 5K Walk/Run in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be held tomorrow, Oct. 18, with a start time of 11 a.m. at Crescent Beach. Find Out More.
• The Peconic Land Trust's Bridge Gardens will hold its autumn open house tomorrow, Oct. 18 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be family craft activities and representatives from numerous local environmental non-profits on hand to share their work with the community. Find Out More.
• The Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt's Sundays at Two Program in Bridgehampton this week will be "Nature’s Remedy: Healing the Mind and Spirit Through the Trails with Aiyana Smith." Here's More Info.
