East End "No Kings" Rallies, Back Aboard the Fire Fighter, Orient Water Forum

Good Morning!
• We're expecting showers and possibly a thunderstorm today, with a high temperature near 67 degrees and a south wind around 16 miles per hour, becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph, and new precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible. There's a 30 percent chance of showers this evening, mainly before 8 p.m., with partly cloudy skies overnight and a low around 49. We're expecting sunny skies on Tuesday, with a high near 67, and showers early on Wednesday, with partly sunny skies and a high also near 67.
• From East Hampton to Hampton Bays to a sea of events in Riverhead Saturday, hundreds more East Enders showed up for the second series of “No Kings” rallies this year in protest of the autocratic tendencies of the current federal administration. Read More.
• Candidates for two seats on the Southampton Town Council will participate in a League of Women Voters virtual debate on Sea-TV this evening at 7 p.m. Incumbent Republicans Cyndi McNamara and Rick Martel will debate the issues with Democrat Tom Neely. The video is expected to be streamed live, and available later, on YouTube here.
• The retired New York City fireboat Fire Fighter, now a floating museum, is slated to be in Greenport through this winter, and, when possible, volunteers are giving weekend tours of this storied boat, the first diesel electric fireboat commissioned in the United States. We were able to take a tour of the fireboat a couple weeks back. Here are some highlights.
• As access to fresh and safe drinking water has been at the forefront of North Forkers' minds this year, the Orient Association is holding a Water Forum at Poquatuck Hall on Saturday Oct. 25, to give the community a chance to learn more about the state of groundwater here. Find Out More.
• Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport hosts a New York Blood Center blood drive today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made online here.
