Appreciating Whitney Hubbard, Water Forum, Early Voting, On The Future of Southampton


Good Morning!
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 60 degrees and a west wind 6 to 8 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 43. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 59, and Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 57.
• As access to fresh and safe drinking water has been at the forefront of North Forkers’ minds this year, the Orient Association is holding a Water Forum at Poquatuck Hall on Saturday Oct. 25, to give the community a chance to learn more about the state of groundwater here. Find Out More.
• Greenport's Floyd Memorial Library is inviting the community to come to a “Hubbard Appreciation Day” honoring the artist Whitney Hubbard and his wife, accomplished musician Ruth Hubbard. on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 25. There will be tea and music in the gallery and attendees are invited to bring Whitney Hubbard works to share with the community. Find Out More.
• The Sag Harbor Fire Department at 1357 Brick Kiln Road hosts a New York Blood Center blood drive today from noon to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made online here.
• Early voting starts tomorrow, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and continues at varying times each day through Nov. 2. Voters can cast their ballots during early voting at any of the 28 locations in Suffolk County. Those who chose to vote on Election Day, Nov. 4, can only vote at their regular polling place, which they can look up here. Read our ongoing election coverage here.
• The need to address traffic, affordable housing and updating the town’s 26-year-old Comprehensive Plan topped issues of concern to the Southampton Town Board candidates in a Zoom debate organized by the League of Women Voters of The Hamptons, Shelter Island and the North Fork on Oct. 20. • Democratic Southold Town Clerk candidate Abigail Field writes in this week about how she would run the Town Clerk's office if elected. Read Her Letter.
• There are not one but two Repair Cafés being held on the East End on Saturday. The North Fork Environmental Council hosts one at Jamesport's George Young Community Center from 1 to 4 p.m., and the Shelter Island Library also hosts a Repair Café from 10 a.m. to noon. Repair Cafés are a free community event where you can bring your beloved but broken items and learn how to repair them from your skilled neighbors.
• The Greenport Village Halloween Parade lineup begins 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Floyd Memorial Library, kicking off a day full of Halloween Village events. Find Out More. And if you can't get enough, cross the bay and join in Sag Harbor's Ragamuffin Parade on Sunday — lineup on Nassau Street next to the laundromat at 12:45 p.m.
