Riverhead Democrats on the Issues, Shelter Island Pharmacy Stops Filling Prescriptions Today, SCWA Hearings

Good Morning!
• We're expecting increasing clouds today, with a high temperature near 76 degrees and a southwest wind 6 to 11 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Skies will be mostly cloudy overnight, with a low around 61 and a 60 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2 a.m. We're expecting heavy rain on Wednesday, with a high near 72, a southwest wind 10 to 13 miles per hour and new precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 63.
• The incumbent Riverhead Republican candidates for Town Supervisor and Town Board declined to appear at two candidate forums in Jamesport and downtown Riverhead this past week, giving Democrats a chance to hone their pitches for why they would be better leaders for the town. Read More.
• Despite the community's effort to rally to delay the end of prescription drug services at the Shelter Island Heights Pharmacy, the pharmacy portion of the business will be closing at the end of the business day on Oct. 7. Find Out More.
• Last night's League of Women Voters debate for the Suffolk County Legislature's Second Legislative District, between incumbent Democrat Ann Welker and Republican challenger Raheem Soto, can now be viewed on Sea-TV's YouTube channel. • This evening, the Suffolk County Water Authority will be holding the first of three hearings on whether the agency can deem itself exempt from local land use board review in the construction of the proposed North Fork Pipeline. Tonight's hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Suffolk County Water Authority’s Westhampton Building at 624 Old Riverhead Road in Westhampton Beach. Subsequent hearings will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Southold Town Recreation Center at 970 Peconic Lane in Peconic, and on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Riverhead Public Library at 330 Court Street in Riverhead. • The East Hampton Town Board will discuss the 2026 tentative budget, short term rentals, the town's proposed affordable multiple residence code and certificates of occupancy at its 11 a.m. work session at Town Hall this morning. • The Shelter Island Town Board will discuss an update on the closure of the Shelter Island Heights Pharmacy and hear a recap of its Health & Wellness Community Forum held at the Center Firehouse on Sunday at its 1 p.m. work session this afternoon, along with the status of the the town's Shoreline Access Task Force Report. • The Southold Town Board is slated to discuss the town's February 2026 WinterFest celebration, Accessory Dwelling Unit funding and policy proposals and transfer of organic waste at its 2:30 p.m. work session this afternoon, followed by a 4:30 p.m. regular meeting at which they're slated to hold a public hearing on several proposed changes to the town's wetland code (see the bottom of this story for details).
