Good Morning!
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 61 degrees and a north wind 11 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 24 mph. We're expecting clear skies overnight, with a low around 39 and patchy frost after 5 a.m. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 63, and Saturday will be partly sunny, with a high near 67.
• This evening, the Suffolk County Water Authority will be holding its third of three hearings on whether the agency can deem itself exempt from local land use board review in the construction of the proposed North Fork Pipeline. Tonight's hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Riverhead Public Library at 330 Court Street in Riverhead. Here's More Info.
• This evening at 7 p.m., the Southold Town Anti-Bias Task Force will give its annual Helen Wright Prince Community Award to Rafael Morais, a community liaison and bilingual educator, at the Mattituck Senior High School Library. All are welcome to attend this celebration of educators who have made a difference on the North Fork. Southold Town Councilman Brian Mealy promises punch and cookies.
• This evening at 7 p.m., the Hamptons Observatory presents a free, virtual lecture by astrophysics professor Dr. Charles Liu, a professor of astrophysics about the newest international earth-based astrophysical facility, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, and how you can be involved in its mission to explore and understand some of the Universe’s biggest mysteries. Find Out More.
• Southold Republican candidate for the Fishers Island Justice/Councilmember seat on the Southold Town Board writes in this week about the importance of protecting seagrass on Fishers Island. Read Her Letter.
• The Southampton Town Board will meet in its capacity as the Commissioners of the Hampton Bays Water District this morning at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. work session at which they're slated to discuss landmark designations for the Austin Tuthill Family House at 149 South Country Road in Remsenburg and the Herman Ellsworth Terrell House at 11 Walnut Ave. in East Quogue. • The Riverhead Town Board meets in private executive session at its 10 a.m. work session to discuss potential litigation with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management over its zoning rules regarding where cannabis dispensaries can be located. Here's the agenda.
• Looking ahead to this Saturday, North Fork Audubon is planning to dedicate its Berries for Birds garden in honor of the late Rick Kedenburg, whose extraordinary volunteer service and generous support made this garden possible. Find out more, and RSVP, here.
