Riverhead Transient Rental Hearing, The Confusion of the Lighted Night, Festival of Trees


Good Morning!
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 47 degrees and a west wind around 10 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 mph. We're expecting increasing clouds overnight, with a low around 35 and a 30 percent chance of rain after 1 a.m. We're expecting cloudy skies early on Wednesday, with a 20 percent chance of rain before 1 p.m., and skies clearing in the afternoon, with a high near 48. Thursday will be partly sunny, with a high near 51.

• The Southold Town Board meets in private Executive Session this morning to discuss contracts and labor matters, followed by an open work session, anticipated to start at 12:45 p.m., in which the board is slated to discuss town compost sampling, a study of least terns at Dam Pond in East Marion, code changes regarding accessory dwelling units, CPF protection in Greenport, last week's community meeting on a YMCA and a grant application for eco-moorings from the Fishers Island Seagrass Management Coalition. • The East Hampton Town Board will discuss Community Development Block Grant funding recommendations, wireless tower design, a proposed new trail at the former Al X Hamilton Nature Preserve and the Hog Creek South End Preserves management plan at its 11 a.m. work session this morning at Town Hall. • The Shelter Island Town Board discusses Community Development Block Grant projects and dock fees at its 1 p.m. work session at Town Hall this afternoon. Here's the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live on the town's YouTube channel.
• The Riverhead Town Board will hold a public hearing on changes to its town code to not allow transient rentals of fewer than 29 days at its 6 p.m. regular meeting this evening. Here are the details. The board is also slated to vote on resolutions declaring The Jazz Loft qualified and eligible to purchase and run the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall, and to override the state tax cap and approve the town's 2026 budget, which carries a 6.74 percent tax levy increase.
