Election Day, Urging Commuters to Use LIRR, Dredge Arrives in Montauk, Students Carry the Message of ReWild


Good Morning!
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 58 degrees and a west wind 17 to 22 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 32 mph. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 43. Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 61, and Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 56.
• Today is Election Day for town and county races. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and we're expected to have some info about how the local races shake out by around 10:30 p.m. Follow our X feed for early results. Here's our election coverage, and here's how to find your polling place.
• The villages of East Hampton and Southampton are urging commuters to use the Long Island Rail Road's South Fork Commuter Connection if possible this week to avoid the backlog of traffic caused by the storm damage to the Sunrise Highway Bridge over the Shinnecock Canal. Repairs there are expected to last through the week, with westbound traffic limited to one lane at that location. Commuter Connection trains serve stations on the Montauk Line from Speonk to Montauk and cost $3.25, which includes a local shuttle in the villages. Here's more info.
• The suction dredge Oyster Bay and its supporting equipment have arrived in Montauk, marking the start of active mobilization of a highly anticipate Army Corps of Engineers dredging of the inlet to Montauk Harbor, announced East Hampton Town on Monday. Read More.
• From Montauk to Mattituck and many places in between, the message of ReWilding is resonating with students on the East End, who are finding their own way to bring nature back to the places that surround them. Read More.
• The LGBT Network will host a “Fall into Pride” Thanksgiving-themed dinner fundraiser this Saturday, Nov. 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Little Fish in Southold, featuring live music, specialty cocktails, and a buffet-style dinner of autumnal and holiday dishes created from locally-sourced produce to help build awareness around North Fork Pride and raise funds to ensure the LGBT Network can continue its work on behalf of the North Fork's LGBT community year-round.
