More To The Holidays Than Cheer with Northeast Stage, Southold WinterFest Set, Ditch Plains Update

Good Morning!
• We're expecting rain today, with a high temperature near 49 degrees and a southeast wind 5 to 13 miles per hour, becoming northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 24 miles per hour, and we're expecting between 1 and 2 inches of rain, which will continue until about 7 p.m. We're expecting a low of around 29 overnight, with wind chill values between 20 and 25 degrees. Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near 41, and Thursday will be partly sunny, with a high near 43.
• The theater company Northeast Stage has been producing shows in the area surrounding Greenport for 40 years now, making a name for itself through its Shakespeare productions. But the company, founded in 1983 by a team including Tony Award-winning actress Peg Murray and Amie Sponza, also has a rich history of producing offbeat and experimental plays, and this December they’re offering an alternative to the traditional holiday fare, a new play by local playwright James Pritchard, “Lessons from Hollywood,” running from Dec. 5 through 14 at Greenport's Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. It’s the first production Northeast Stage has embarked on after Ms. Sponza agreed for the company to absorb the upstart Corchaug Repertory Theatre. Read More.
• The Southold Town Economic Development Committee is now accepting entries to participate in its fifth annual WinterFest street fair in downtown Southold, which next year will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout downtown Southold. Find Out More.
• The East Hampton Town Board will discuss the work to shore up Ditch Plains Beach, proposed changes to agricultural site plan applications, a petition for an affordable housing overlay change of zone at 152 Three Mile Harbor Road, a proposal from Hamptons Pride for a memorial park in Wainscott and proposed changes to requirements for accessory dwelling units at its 11 a.m. work session at Town Hall this morning. • The Southold Town Board will meet in private executive session this morning, followed by an open work session anticipated to start at 12:30 p.m. at which the board will discuss a new communications committee, youth bureau initiatives, social medial, a literacy initiative with local schools and setting income limits for affordable rentals for next year. The board has no public hearings scheduled for its 7 p.m. meeting this evening. • The Riverhead Town Board holds three public hearings, on budget modifications to its Community Development Block Grant funding to move $75,000 allocated to parking lot improvements to the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall, and to adopt NFPA national fire prevention standards into the town code and to install a stop sign on Timber Drive in Calverton at the intersection with Old Stone Road, at its 2 p.m. regular meeting this afternoon.
