Water Authority Deems North Fork Pipeline Exempt from Local Review, Art That Reminds There's No Place Like Home, Doc Fest Kickoff

Good Morning!

• We're expecting increasing clouds today, with a high temperature near 41 degrees and wind chill values between 25 and 35, with a west wind 8 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 29 mph. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 16. We're expecting increasing clouds on Friday, with a high near 35 and a 20 percent chance of light snow after 1 p.m. Saturday will be partly sunny, with a 40 percent chance of rain before 1 p.m. and a high near 42 degrees.

• The Suffolk County Water Authority has deemed itself exempt from local review of its proposed North Fork Pipeline, as Southold Town officials announced Tuesday that the town plans to hold its own "Monroe Balancing Test" on whether the easternmost portion of the project should be subject to local review. • For the second time since it opened its doors in 2024, the North Fork Arts Center in Greenport hosted art galleries from across the North Fork on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a show about what it means to be home. Read More.

• The Hamptons Doc Fest kicks off this evening at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor with a screening of "Steal This Story, Please!," a portrait of independent news show Democracy Now founder Amy Goodman. Read More about this year's festival.

• This evening at 5 p.m. is the Cold Supermoon Hike in Bridgehampton’s Vineyard Field with the Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt. This moon is also called the Long Night Moon, as the winter nights lengthen and the moon spends more time above the horizon opposite a low sun. Find Out More.

• The Riverhead Town Board will discuss kicking off the celebrations for next year's 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States at its 10 a.m. work session this morning. Here's the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live here.

• The Southampton Town Board will discuss a Master Concept Plan for the town's buildings on Jackson Avenue in Hampton Bays, construction of private docks in Peconic Bay and a change of non-conforming use for 60 South Country Road in Quiogue at its 10 a.m. work session this morning.
