Water Conservation Urged as North Fork Pipeline Deadline Approaches, Talking Septic Systems in Southampton

Good Morning!

• We're expecting showers and possibly a thunderstorm this morning, mainly before 11 a.m., with a high temperature near 82 degrees and an east wind 3 to 7 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent and new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible. It will be mostly cloudy overnight, with a low around 70 and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Friday and Saturday will be partly sunny, with a highs in the low 80s.

• Although several days of rain are predicted for the next week, the Suffolk County Water Authority, in a July 7 correspondence to Southold Town, stated a Stage 1 Water Alert may soon be declared for Southold. If enacted, this would prohibit all non-essential water use within the Town, including lawn irrigation, to ensure water is available for emergencies and other priority uses. The town urged residents on Wednesday to conserve water. • The warning is also a reminder that comments are due tomorrow on the Water Authority's scoping process for its Environmental Impact Statement review of its proposed North Fork Pipeline. Here's More Info.

• The Southampton Town Board will hear a presentation on legislation regarding nitrogen-reducing septic systems at its 10 a.m. work session this morning. Here's the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live on Sea-TV's YouTube channel.

• The Riverhead Town Board will discuss possible changes to the town's Community Benefit Overlay Zoning Use District and an update to proposed plans for a new headquarters for the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps at its 10 a.m. work session this morning.
