The Enclaves Gets an Extension; Business Speed Dating with East End Towns; Peconic Landing as an Art Colony; Firemen's Parade

• We're expecting mostly cloudy skies this morning, gradually becoming sunny, with a high temperature near 88 degrees but heat index values as high as 98, with a calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 miles per hour in the afternoon. We're expecting increasing clouds overnight, with a low around 73 and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. There's a 60 percent chance of showers and thundestorms on Thursday, with partly sunny skies and a high near 87, with a heat index as high as 96. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 89 degrees.

• As neighbors of the site that is slated to become "The Enclaves" resort hotel in Southold have complained about the large piles of sand and lack of work being done there over the past several months, the hotel's developers received an extension of its site plan approval from the Southold Town Planning Board Monday evening, July 14. In a June 12 letter to the Planning Board, the developers' attorney, David Altman, said the project had initially had a commitment of $25 million from Dime Bank, which "withdrew its commitment due to regulatory considerations pertaining to the bank." • Say you wanted to start a business on the East End, but weren't sure where to start it. The Long Island Association, in its first "State of the East End" breakfast July 9 at the Inn at East Wind in Wading River, asked each of the five East End town supervisors to share their elevator pitch for why you should start a business in their town. • It's no secret among the people who live at the retirement community Peconic Landing, in Greenport, that the place is a bit of an art colony. You don't have to leave the sprawling campus to find inspiration, from nature, from the extensive sculpture gardens throughout the grounds, and from other members of the community, whose work hangs in the halls of the community center. for the second year in a row this July, residents here have filled Brecknock Hall, the historic mansion at the entrance to the community, with an Art Show & Sale that showcases the diversity of their talents. • The Firemen's Parade at the Jamesport Fire Department's annual carnival is this evening at 7 p.m., stepping off from Washington Avenue in Jamesport and running east on Main Street to the fairgrounds at the George Young Community Center. Find Out More.
