Water Pipeline Deadline Extended Again, Southold's Odd/Even Watering is Back on the Table, Tuesday Hearing for Riverhead Town Square Developer

• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 83 degrees and a northwest wind 9 to 15 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 58. Tuesday will be sunny, with a high near 80, and Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near 85.

• The Suffolk County Water Authority has again extended the deadline for comment on its proposed North Fork Pipeline, this time to Monday, Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. A Water Authority spokesperson said Friday the agency "wanted to ensure that there was adequate time for anyone who wanted to comment to do so. We want this review to be as thorough as possible."

• The Peconic Estuary Partnership will hold two community meetings this week to hear perspectives from the public about the future of the estuary. The first will be held this evening at 6 p.m. at Ashawagh Hall in Springs, and the second will be held tomorrow evening, July 22 at 6 p.m. at the Peconic Baykeeper's Office at 167 Red Creek Road in Hampton Bays. • The Riverhead Town Board is holding a special meeting this Tuesday, July 22 at 6 p.m. to hold a “Qualified & Eligible Hearing” to examine the qualifications of its chosen developer for its Town Square project, J. Petrocelli Contracting. Read More.

• When the Southold Town Board held a public hearing June 24 on a proposal to limit lawn irrigation, the board had decided prior to the meeting to remove key provisions recommended by the town’s Water Advisory Committee, including requiring property owners to adhere to odd/even day watering schedules and to not irrigate between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The public hearing will continue this Tuesday, July 22 at the board’s 4:30 p.m. meeting, and those two items will again be part of the proposal, at the urging of the town's Water Advisory Committee. • There are three blood drives being held today throughout the North Fork. The Cornell Cooperative Extension headquarters at 423 Griffing Avenue in Riverhead hosts a New York Blood Center blood drive today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made online here. Poquatuck Hall on Village Lane in Orient also hosts a New York Blood Center blood drive today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments for Orient can be made here. CJ’s American Grill in the Mattituck Shopping Plaza also holds a blood drive from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Appointments in Mattituck can be made here.
