• Pictured Above: On Tuesday afternoon, Southold Town dedicated Town Beach in Greenport to Lt. George Sullivan, a longtime town tax receiver who was awarded the Navy Cross while serving as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War. Lt. Sullivan was serving as a rifle platoon commander in March of 1967 when it came under intense fire, and ran across open fire to silence the fire with a grenade, moving two wounded Marines to safety before suffering injuries himself, while he continued to direct air support and medical evacuation for his platoon.

• We're expecting mostly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 85 degrees and a calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 miles per hour in the afternoon. It will be partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 72. Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

• In a 4-1 vote Tuesday evening, July 22, the Southold Town Board enacted new restrictions on irrigation, at a time when the town's groundwater is facing unprecedented threats, including a requirement for odd/even irrigation. Here's More Info.

• After hearing just over an hour of testimony from the public Tuesday evening, the Riverhead Town Board has closed a public hearing on whether its chosen master developer for its Town Square project, J. Petrocelli's family of companies, is qualified and eligible to build the town square and an adjacent hotel. The board said documents relating to the developers' qualifications would soon be uploaded to the town's website and held the public hearing open for written comments until Aug. 1. We'll provide the link to examine the documents when it becomes available.

• U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was in Riverhead Monday to share her concerns with local environmental groups and the public about the president's proposed $8 million in funding cuts to the National Estuary Program in his 2026 budget. Find Out More.

• This Sunday, July 27, the Orient Congregational Church is welcoming Rural & Migrant Ministry’s Executive Director, Rev. Richard Witt, and staff from the Amandla Worker Education Center, to give the North Fork community a better idea of the work RMM is doing to help farm workers on the East End. Find Out More.
