Yellow Moon, Yellow Moon
Good Morning!
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 88 degrees and a south wind 6 to 8 miles per hour. An air quality alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. due to ground level ozone. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 62. Tuesday and Wednesday will be sunny, with highs in the high 80s.
• The Village of Greenport holds a special meeting this evening at 5 p.m. at the Old Schoolhouse on Front Street to discuss the Southold Zoning Update and its impact on Greenport West — the area outside the incorporated village that is still in the Greenport zip code (11944). Here’s More Info.
• Looking ahead to tomorrow, the Southampton Town Board will hold a public hearing on the use of Community Housing Funds for Georgica Green’s proposed 40-unit mixed-use affordable rental apartment complex on Flanders Road in Riverside at its regular meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. Find Out More.
• There are many constant forces tugging the art world in different directions — the tug between commercial work and pure artistic expression is often at the forefront — but the arts also have a great role to play in exploring our collective humanity during times when suffering and political turmoil surround us. North Fork Contemporary tackled these issues head-on in a July 26 discussion at the Jamesport Meeting House. Read Our Coverage.
• Greenport's Dances in the Park in Mitchell Park continues this evening at 7:30 p.m. with Southbound, a country band guaranteed to get the audience on its feet. Find Out More.
At this weekend’s Behind the Headlines on 88.3 WLIW-FM, Beacon editor Beth Young joins a panel bidding Express News Group columnist Carlos Sandoval farewell, as he reflects on several decades covering the changing face of the East End’s Latino population. Tune In Any Time.
