Greenport Not Happy With Zoning Update Changes, New Medical Director at ELIH, Riverhead Water Forum, Deadline for Southold Cell Survey

• We're expecting mostly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 85 degrees and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with a south wind 6 to 11 miles per hour. There's a 50 percent chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 70. Thursday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 86 and a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 85.

Businesses and lawmakers in Greenport Village are not happy with potential changes to the areas just outside the village boundaries proposed in Southold Town’s Zoning Update. The village’s Business Improvement District is particularly concerned about the town’s recent change of heart allowing restaurants and retail uses in a new Corridor Business Zoning District, and many in village government want the Zoning Update to do more to enable affordable housing near the village. • When Dr. Lloyd Simon retired as Medical Director at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital earlier this summer, after more than four decades of service at the hospital, administrators there knew they had to find someone special to replace him. Dr. Alison Madden, an obstetrician by training, who took the helm as the new Medical Director at the hospital on July 21, recently gave an overview of her thoughts about the hospital at a presentation at Peconic Landing. • Riverhead Town will hold a public forum this evening at 6 p.m. to share information regarding the Suffolk County Water Authority’s proposed North Fork Pipeline, which is slated to travel over 8.5 miles of roads, mostly in the Town of Riverhead, ahead of an Aug. 19 public hearing on a "Monroe Balancing Test" for the application, a legal test done to resolve intergovernmental land use disputes. • Southold Town's survey about wireless phone coverage in the town closes at 5 p.m. today. The town is hoping to use the information gathered to improve wireless infrastructure on the North Fork. Participate Online Here.
