High Surf & Swimming Prohibition Continues, Beyond Bees, Greenport Sewer Questions, Action Center Get-Together

Good Morning!

• The National Weather Service's high surf and rip current advisories due to Hurricane Erin will continue on South Shore beaches through 8 p.m. today, while a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m. Saturday during times of high tide, with one-and-a-half to two feet of inundation above ground level possible.

South Jamesport: 11:44 a.m.

• At the direction of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, swimming will be prohibited at all ocean beaches until Saturday morning, Aug. 23, due to hazardous conditions expected as a result of Hurricane Erin. Southampton Town closed Dune Road east of the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays late Thursday in anticipation of the overnight high tide. We will update this post with more details.

• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 84 degrees and a north wind 6 to 13 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 66. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 84, and Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 82.

• This afternoon at 3 p.m., the North Fork Environmental Council will host Beyond Bees: The World of Alternative Pollinators, a lively and informative presentation led by Lilla Chicco, NFEC’s Summer intern, whose passion for environmental stewardship is matched only by her enthusiasm for the Flower Fly and other overlooked pollination powerhouses. Find Out More.
