Begging Suffolk for Help For Immigrants, A Quantum Leap from New Orleans, Riverhead Water Meetings

Good Morning!
• We're expecting mostly cloudy skies this morning, gradually becoming sunny, with a high temperature near 79 degrees and an east wind 6 to 10 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 56. We're expecting sunny skies on Friday, with a high near 80, and sunny skies again on Saturday, with a high near 82.
• A sea of people wearing white descended on the Suffolk County Legislature’s Aug. 5 meeting at the Riverhead County Center, pleading with the legislature to stand up for immigrants living here. The quiet protest, organized by the Long Island Immigrant Justice Alliance, came amidst a wave of arrests and raids by Immigration & Customs Enforcement and other federal immigration agencies throughout the county and the country, including on the East End, as statistics show the majority of people currently in ICE custody have no criminal convictions. • Riverhead Town will hold a public forum next Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. to share information regarding the Suffolk County Water Authority's proposed North Fork Pipeline, which is slated to travel over 8.5 miles of roads, mostly in the Town of Riverhead, in advance of an Aug. 19 public hearing on a "Monroe Balancing Test" to resolve the issue of whether the Water Authority is exempt from local zoning codes. • When Donald Harrison’s Quantum Leap Music Festival came into Cutchogue like a whirlwind in September of 2024, it seemed like it might be a one-off chance to see some of the best jazz musicians from New Orleans in an intimate setting at the North Fork’s first winery, now Borghese Vineyard.
