• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 80 degrees and a light east wind, becoming southeast 5 to 9 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 61. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 80 and Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 85.

• The Suffolk County Legislature heard unanimous support for new legislation that would protect working waterfront properties at a public hearing Tuesday evening, Aug. 5. The legislature is expected to vote on the bill at its next meeting Sept. 3. Read More.

• The Center for Advocacy, Support & Transformation (CAST) will celebrate 60 years of service to the North Fork and Shelter Island communities with a 60th Anniversary Celebration & Appreciation Event this evening at their Southold headquarters. Read More.

• Jack Licitra's "Blue Light Club," a play set in an imaginary blues and jazz haven where unforgettable characters share their stories live on the fictitious WBLU with real-life radio host Gianna Volpe, will be on the North Fork Community Theatre stage in Mattituck this evening at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Find Out More.

• The Arts Center at Duck Creek presents "An East End Sound Map: Cal Fish, Becca Rodriguez, and ONE LANDSCAPE," a four-day immersive installation and interactive program exploring the sonic, ecological, and narrative layers of the East End landscape, throughout this weekend. • This Saturday at 10 a.m., the Southampton Sustainability Committee, the Peconic Land Trust and the Mecox Bay Conservancy are spearheading a forum, “Understanding Climate Change on the East End: Why It Matters and What We Can Do” at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, to help everyone understand the role of their homes and their choices in protecting the environment. • The Southold Town Anti-Bias Task Force holds its Annual Unity Picnic on Saturday from Noon to 4 p.m. at the Peconic Community Center. This afternoon features live music, games, prizes, and entertainment for all ages and complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, and beverages. • Some cool musicians flew too close to the sun, and returned as The Hot Jupiters, which will be landing on the New Suffolk Ballfield Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. with new sounds, a light sculpture by Clayton Orehek and poetry by Beacon editor Beth Young.
