Memorial Services, Southold Cell Phone Survey, Runs for Causes This Weekend
Good Morning,
• Here’s our list of the Sept. 11 memorial services being held across the East End today on the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. We are holding all who have lost loved ones and who are still struggling with the aftermaths of the attacks and the wars that followed, in our hearts today.
• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 79 degrees and a north wind around 7 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 55. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 75, and Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
• The Suffolk County Water Authority announced Wednesday that its Stage 1 Water Alert for all customers issued earlier this summer has been rescinded, "as system conditions have improved following weeks of customer cooperation in reducing water use."
• More than 770 people weighed in during Southold Town’s recent community survey regarding cellular service, and while many said they would prefer the towers to be concealed, most said that their top priority is better coverage. Town Consultant Susan Rabold of Cityscape gave an overview of the survey results and discussed how the town’s zoning code update could dovetail with community needs at the Southold Town Board’s Sept. 9 work session. The Sag Harbor Partnership announced a fundraising campaign this week to restore the Sag Harbor Firemen's Museum on Church Street, a Sag Harbor Fire Department building which in the 1970s had been converted to a museum run by the fire department showcasing its history as the oldest fire department in New York State. • There will be no town board work sessions in Southampton or Riverhead today. Riverhead held their work session yesterday afternoon, primarily in private executive session, to discuss matters including contractual agreements between the town and its Business Improvement District.
• This Saturday, Sept. 13 is the Hampton Bays Lions Club's 14th Annual Over the Bridge 10K Run and 5K Walk, primarily to benefit those who are sight and hearing impaired and in need of guide dogs. Registration runs from 7 to 8:30 a.m., with the race start at 9 a.m. Find Out More.
• The Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation holds its ninth annual 5K Family Walk/Run to benefit the hospital's behavioral health services this year at Indian Island County Park in Riverhead this Sunday, Sept. 14. The walk/run starts at 9 a.m. sharp. Here's More Info.
