Planning Sustainable Coastal Communities, Riverhead Hearing on eBike Restrictions, A New Playground in New Suffolk

Good Morning!
• We're expecting partly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 73 degrees and a 20 percent chance of showers between 2 and 5 p.m., with a northeast wind 8 to 13 miles per hour. Showers are likely overnight, with a low around 58. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 72 and a 60 percent chance of showers, and skies will gradually clear on Thursday, with a high near 77 and a 30 percent chance of showers before 2 p.m.
• The East Hampton Town Board will discuss sustainable planning in coastal communities, tree protection code recommendations, updates from the Springs Food Pantry and the Family Service League and a "Make Room for Rescue" campaign at its 11 a.m. work session this morning at town hall. • The Riverhead Town Board holds several public hearings at its 6 p.m. regular meeting this evening, on a special permit application for the expansion of the restaurant now known as The Dimon Estate on Manor Lane, and on regulations concerning ebikes and electric scooters — limiting their access to certain roads, their allowed speed and prohibiting their use at night. The board is also slated to approve a settlement to buy out the lease of Craft'D, a bar in a town-owned building that is slated to be demolished for the Town Square project. • The Shelter Island Town Board will discuss the town's mooring and dock waiting list procedures, a master plan for town facilities and fire alarm fines at its 1 p.m. work session this afternoon. Here's the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live here.
• Many residents of New Suffolk were shocked last week to see a large pile of dirt appear on an expanse of long vacant lawn adjacent to the historic New Suffolk School. The excavation is the beginning of a new playground being built and paid for by Just Kids, whose 2025-2026 program for students with autism at the schoolhouse is fully enrolled with 18 students.
