Park District Looks for Support for Expanded Mattituck Inlet Dredging, Votes on Working Waterfront & Community Life Center Zoning

Good Morning!
• We're expecting mostly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 76 degrees and a calm wind becoming east around 6 miles per hour in the afternoon. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 57. Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 77 and Friday will be sunny, with a high near 81 and a 30 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m.
• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has delayed navigational dredging of the Mattituck Inlet originally slated for this fall to the fall of 2026, but Mattituck Park District representatives, concerned about the dire state of the beach to the east of the inlet, are rallying the community behind a more expansive dredging project. • The Riverhead Town Board meets this afternoon at 2 p.m. Among the items on the agenda is a vote on the adoption of changes to the town's Community Benefit Zoning Use District that would pave the way for the First Baptist Church's long-awaited Family Community Life Center. • The Suffolk County Legislature is slated to vote today on its Working Waterfront legislation, which would pave the way for the county to purchase easements to ensure waterfront property is used for marine purposes in perpetuity. We'll have more details tomorrow.
• The Southold Peconic Civic Association hosts The Peconic Estuary Partnership for a discussion on “Upgrade Your Septic System” on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Peconic Community Center. Find Out More.
• Paul Kreiling of the East End Seaport Museum will discuss “Bug Lighthouse: Past and Future” at the East Marion Community Association’s monthly meeting on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at the East Marion Firehouse. Find Out More.
