Working Waterfront Signing in Greenport, Walk to End Alzheimer’s Raises $123,000, Shelter Island Pharmacy Crisis

• We’re expecting partly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 79 degrees and a north wind 3 to 8 miles per hour. It will be partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 53. Wednesday will be sunny, with a high temperature near 68 degrees and Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 65.
• Surrounded by shellfish growers, representatives from the fishing industry and local elected leaders, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine signed a bill creating a county Working Waterfront Protection Program by the Greenport Village Commercial Dock on Monday, Sept. 29. Read More.
• The North Fork turned out Saturday, Sept. 27 for the Third Annual North Fork Walk to End Alzheimer’s to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association at Peconic Landing. More than 400 walkers raised more than $123,000 for research, advocacy and support for people living with and caring for loved ones with dementia. Read More.
• The Shelter Island Town Board is slated to discuss the crisis created by the Shelter Island Heights Pharmacy no longer filling prescriptions — which means anyone who needs a prescription would need to receive it from off the island — at its 1 p.m. work session this afternoon. Here’s the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live and later on the town’s YouTube channel.
• The Greater Jamesport Civic Association will hold a candidate forum for Riverhead Town Board and Town Supervisor this evening at 7 p.m. at the Jamesport Meeting House, 1590 Main Road in Jamesport. Only the Democratic candidates have agreed to participate.
