Seaplanes Nixed in New Suffolk, County Adopts Working Waterfront Program, Housing on Front Burner

• We're expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 78 degrees and a light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 miles per hour in the morning. We're expecting increasing clouds overnight, with a low around 63 and a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2 a.m. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 81, and Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 82 and a40 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m.
• As word spread this week that a new charter seaplane service was planning to land in New Suffolk to offer "curated experiences" on the North Fork, in violation of town law, Southold Town Supervisor Al Krupski is urging residents who see seaplanes landing in Southold waters to "call the police, who know they should take action immediately....Cutchogue Harbor is such a busy spot, with kids sailing at the yacht club and a lot of boating traffic. To allow that kind of use is dangerous." Read More.
• The Suffolk County Legislature voted Wednesday morning to approve new Working Waterfront legislation that would allow the county to purchase easements to protect sites that had historically been used for fishing docks, marinas, fish packing and aquaculture. Read More.
• Members of Southold Town's Housing Advisory Commission write in this week on the vital work ahead implementing the town's Housing Plan, under the direction of new Community Development Project Supervisor Andrea Menjivar: "We are now in a stronger position than ever to turn talk into action. With every graduating class that moves out of the area, with every business that experiences staffing problems, with school occupancy diminishing, we must be time sensitive and aware that the wheels of influence must increase in speed and determination" Read the Letter →

• The Southampton Town Board will discuss activities at the North Sea Maritime Center, a proposed farm management plan at Poxabogue Field and a mixed use floating zone at its 10 a.m. work session this morning. Here's the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live on Sea-TV's YouTube channel.
• The Riverhead Town Board will hold a work session at 10 a.m. today. The agenda is slated to be posted here, and the meeting can be viewed live here. Riverhead Town's new website will also go live at 11 a.m. today. "You're gonna like the format. It's so much easier to navigate and find what you're looking for," promised Riverhead Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard at the board's Sept. 3 meeting.
• The East Hampton Town Board is slated to approve a Notice to Bidders for the restoration of Ditch Plains Beach, due Sept. 25, at its 6 p.m. regular meeting this evening, along with two public hearings on grants of scenic and conservation easements. Here's the agenda, and the meeting can be viewed live on LTV's YouTube channel. The board is also slated to hold a Special Meeting at 4 p.m.
