Watch: No Kings Greenport March

Nearly 500 people gathered in Greenport’s Mitchell Park and then marched through the village in Saturday’s No Kings protest, reminding each other of the importance of public participation in democracy.

Why Declare America Does Not Have Kings?

East Hampton, Saturday

Greenport, Saturday

Riverhead, Saturday

by Abigail Field

This Saturday, March 28, millions of Americans — including many Southold residents — peacefully assembled to proclaim America does NOT have Kings. We fought a revolution to free ourselves from a king, after all. I will be attending for many reasons, but one I’d like to focus on here: War.

Our Constitution is really clear:

[The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water; . . .

I don’t care what the government calls what’s happening between the US, Israel and Iran; it is a war, and President Trump needed to ask Congress for permission. I recognize recent presidents have bombed other countries illegally too, and that President G.W. Bush lied to Congress when asking for permission for the Iraq War. But this Iran War is so globally destructive, those analogies don’t hold.

Building a Creative Clubhouse at the North Fork Arts Center

Through the lull of this winter, the North Fork Arts Center has been chipping away at the concrete and plaster of its historic theater on Front Street in Greenport, while bringing on new staff and board members to carry on the vision of its founding crew.

The goal? A creative clubhouse for the whole North Fork.

Southold Spotlight

Furor Continues Over Southold Chicken Farm

After coming to the last two Southold Town Board meetings pleading with the town to do something to prevent a chicken farm from opening on a 16-acre swath of protected agricultural land behind their subdivision, residents of Jasmine Lane are furious after another board, the Southold Town Planning Board, said Monday that many of their comments are beyond the scope of its review as well.

Southold Nixes Bathing Season at Town Beach

After winter storms undermined vast swaths of the parking lot at the Southold Town-owned Town Beach on the North Road on the outskirts of Greenport, the town will not be using it as a lifeguarded bathing beach this summer.

A Crispy Cider Chicken to Send Winter Out on a High Note

by Alison Boyd-Savage

The brutal winter of 2025/26 will certainly be one for the history books. The bleak weather outside calls for sustaining food enjoyed in the comfort of our homes.

As a break from traditional wine-based stews, I have taken inspiration from the French apple growing capital of Normandy, to create a hearty dish of chicken thighs cooked in hard cider. Drier than regular apple cider, it creates a slightly sweet and rich sauce and tender, juicy meat. Although we do not have the rolling orchards of Northwestern France on the East End, in recent years we have seen more cider producers entering this market.
