Amid Questions About Process & Scale, Riverhead Poised to Vote in August on Town Square Master Developer

The Riverhead Town Board will likely vote in August to approve an agreement for the Petrocelli family’s development companies to build a new Town Square in downtown Riverhead, along with a five-story ‘branded’ hotel adjacent to the square.
“It could be as quick as Aug. 5 or Aug. 19,” Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard told a crowd that gathered to weigh in at a hearing July 22 to determine whether Petrocelli Riverhead Town Square, LLC, a new Limited Liability formed by J. Petrocelli Development Associates for the project, is “Qualified & Eligible” to purchase the property.
As Sea Level Rises, Suffolk To Study Shoring Up Southold’s Route 48County Route 48 is known locally on the North Fork as The North Road, distinguishing itself from the Main Road by its geography, four lanes barreling through farmland along the northern spine of Cutchogue, Peconic and Mattituck before narrowing to two lanes through Southold and Greenport, where it hugs the coastlines of Hashamomuck Cove and Hashamomuck Pond. At these easternmost locations, the road is vulnerable to coastal flooding, which is anticipated to worsen dramatically as sea levels rise and storms intensify over the next century. | ![]() |

ColumnDave’s Desk@DitchA Sense of PlaceHere on the East End of Long Island, with the summer season now reaching its apex, I’m once again reminded of just how easy it is for the year-rounders like myself to lose their ‘sense of place.’ Maybe it’s that hidden cove below the hoodoos or a slice of beach where you sit peacefully, absorbing the sounds and smells of Nature that envelop you. Maybe it’s that cluster of flat rocks that you covet at low tide in order to cast out your line far beyond the breakers. | ![]() |
